Originally from North London, Seth went straight from school in Camden to become a City broker. After six successful if turbulent years, however, he swapped Armani for the Army when he enlisted in the Israeli Defence Force. Giving up his high-living, hedonistic lifestyle Seth became one of thirty ‘lone soldiers’ admitted to the IDF in November 2004. He left in 2006 having kept diaries throughout his service. Can I Bring My Own Gun? is his personal record, drawn from his diaries, of the time spent serving in Israel - earning £100 a month while being shot at, stoned and insulted by Palestinians and liberal Israelis - as well as the revelatory journey he undertook upon being demobbed. It details his harrowing but ultimately enlightening transition from Army grunt to Israeli journalist in riveting and spectacular style.
