The Authorised Biography of Ronnie Barker
Foreword by David Jason
Description
Ronnie Barker is one of the most admired and celebrated entertainers in the history of British television. Not only did he star in Porridge and Open All Hours, two of the most critically acclaimed sitcoms of all time, he was also one half of the bespectacled Two Ronnies, a double act that topped the TV charts for more than 15 years and returns to our screens once again in 2005.
As well as being a brilliant performer, Ronnie is also an outstanding comedy writer and throughout his career he used a variety of pseudonyms to sell his scenes and sketches to the very shows he was working on. He has also found success as a serious actor, starring in television films including the Emmy awardwinning Winston Churchill movie The Gathering Storm and My House in Umbria with Dame Maggie Smith. He has featured on the big screen opposite such film greats as Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn.
A celebration of Ronnie’s life and career, published to coincide with his 75th birthday, this biography contains original contributions from people who have worked with Ronnie and know him best including John Cleese, David Jason, Sir Peter Hall and Eric Idle. It is written with the full consent and collaboration of Ronnie himself and is packed with interviews and unseen illustrations from his own personal archive.
